Recently, the moving parts of an automotive engine are required to be lighter in order to get an engine with higher power and lower noise.
To meet this requirement, many efforts have been made to reduce the weight of the parts, especially the connecting rod. Consequently, the stiffness of a connecting rod is getting lowered, and it causes to increase the possibility of the bearing failure.

In this study, it is attempted for HMC to firstly develop both experimental and analytical method of evaluating the connecting rod stiffness and that is accomplished successfully. In order to measure the stiffness, HMC-originated measuring equipment is built and the reliability of it is verified by confirming the repeatability of measurements. The analytical method is also developed by using the F.E.A., and the validity of it is clarified by comparing the results with those from measurements.
